browsing

This is the term given when users move through an interface without a specific goal in mind (most often applied to this behaviour in moving through websites). For example if a user has entered the Books page and is looking for something to buy but not any specific book, they could be said to be browsing.

Browsing involves very different behaviour to performing a set task.
