Services - Accessibility Services
Accessibility is really an extension of usability - making things accessible and easy to use for everyone. We offer a range of accessibility services, including:
- Accessibility Testing - we can organise for people with a range of abilities to usability test your site in their own environment and using their own specialist equipment. As well as uncovering any accessibility flaws, we'll also see a clear picture of how easy to use the site is for this audience.
- Accessibility Audits - one of the most effective tools in improving your site is an accessibility audit, where an accessibility specialist reviews the code of each page to measure it against the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) guidelines. We'll recommend fixes for each issue uncovered.
- Training - we offer two training courses in the area of accessibility course, for people who want to learn more, grow an accessibility culture within your organisation or to be able to design accessible pages.
About Accessibility
Have you ever tried to access an Internet site, only to be told you couldn't access the site due to having an older browser, or not having a certain plugin?
It's not much fun being excluded, and accessibility is all about avoiding that. 'Inclusive design' means building a design that works for everyone, regardless of their technology or ability level.
There are good moral, legal and business reasons for paying close attention to the accessibility of your website.
When designing for the Internet, this means thinking about people with different technology levels (browser, plugin, etc.) and also people with different disabilities who may be accessing the Internet in a slightly different way. This includes:
- People with a visual impairment.
- People who are blind.
- People with a physical disability.
- People with hearing impairment.
- People who are colour blind.
- People with a cognitive impairment (such as dyslexia).
- People with a different reading level.
The chances are high that these people are visiting your site right now, the only question is how is your site currently treating them? Inclusive design means ensuring that all visitors receive a similar experience, and have access to the same information and services.
We can assist you with inclusive design by providing early design advice on how to design for all visitors, by providing accessibility training, and by providing evaluations that measure the accessibility level of your web site against approved, global standards.
