What is User-Centred Design / Interaction Design?
A
way of documenting the user-centred design process and recording what
will happen within the design, in a way that all your teams can understand
and start working towards building - development, QA,
documentation, graphic design, etc.
Why you need it
Design documents capture the exact interface and functional structure of your design in great detail, communicating what your teams need to know. They provide vital information to all your internal teams, from development to release, and save time later in the development cycle as all teams can start work sooner.
We often see products where the final design varies from the design initially agreed on, and this causes usability problems down the line.
What we do
We will document your design in detailed Functional Design documents,
including UML diagrams where necessary. This will include information
relevant to all of your internal teams.
We will facilitate walk-through meetings with your teams, to ensure that
the documents are correct and to gain sign off.
In detail
Once Usability Testing is complete, the Functional Designs can be produced. These vary from organisation to organisation in terms of structure, but usually the content is similar. We can support your design team through this process, we can also participate in design walk-through if needed.
In some circumstances, you may not have the resource to produce you own functional specifications. In this case we are happy to produce them for you.
Deliverables
- One Interaction Specification per major design component, including:
- Functional overview
- Navigation map
- Control table
- Decision table
- State transition table
- Error messaging
- Notes for other teams (such as documentation, QA, etc.)
